We will talk about two T.V series today. One of them is a spinoff of the other. Wait a second! What is a ‘Spinoff’?
In media, a spin-off (or spinoff) is a radio program, television program, film, video game or any narrative work, derived from already existing works that focus on more details and different aspects from the original work (e.g. particular topics, characters or events).
The first series we will talk about is called ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and its spin off is called ‘Young Sheldon’. Let's get to the first one!

The Plot
What are four genius scientists to do in Pasadena, California besides working in their labs doing cool science stuff, So they just play video games, watch science fiction movies and read comic books. Their lives are not easy! Raj Kuthrappali cannot talk to women because of a disorder called ‘Selective Mutism’. Leonard Hofstadter has to live with Sheldon Cooper, the protagonist who thinks he is the boss. Sheldon is the smartest and weirdest of all! He has a ‘bathroom schedule’ and everyone has to abide by it. There is a fixed meal for seven days in a week and a spot where nobody can sit besides him. Nobody can dare break his rules, he is bossy and thinks he is better than everyone. He has absolutely no social skills and his friends have to tell him what to say when and what not to. Howard Wolowitz has to live with his mom who just won't set his son free to live on his own. You think it is easy for a grown man to be treated like an 8 year old? Penny, their friend, is a struggling actor and works as a waitress besides doing auditions for acting roles. All of the friends take some time out of their difficult lives and enjoy together and get into trouble together. Their lives get more and more interesting as you shall see.
The Review
‘The Big Bang Theory’ is a humorous story about scientists living in Pasadena. The plot picks up speed fast and there is a laugh every 5 seconds! All characters have played their roles well. The protagonist, Sheldon Cooper might not be a very likable character for many as he is shown as an egoistic, self centered person who thinks he is the best. But he does manage to give a pretty good laugh on the show. The show has 12 seasons. You might think that it is really long, yes it is but I have watched the whole series 3 times already, so you get the idea that it does not get boring at all. Is there any offensive language? Not really, but some of the jokes might be a little offensive for some audiences. Can children watch it? Sadly, this sitcom is made for audiences 15 and above. Is there any good music? The only music in the sitcom is the Intro and there is not much background score as there are laughing tracks. Where can I watch it? It is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Young Sheldon
The cast
Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper
Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper
Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper
Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper
Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper [ narrating voice ]
Lance Barber as George Cooper
Annie Potts as Mee-maw
Wallas Shawn as Dt. John Sturgis
Wyatt Mcclure as Billy Sparks
Ryan Phuong as Tam Nyugen
McKenna Grace as Paige
Craig T Nelson as Dale Ballard
Matt Hobby as Pastor Jeff
Doc Farrow as Coach Wilkins
The Plot
‘Young Sheldon’ talks about the young days of Sheldon when he lived in Texas with his parents, his twin sister, Missy and his elder brother, Georgie. He was born with a photographic memory and an IQ level like no other. Just like his older self, he thinks he is better than everyone. He is a kid who goes to high school and then college. Only thing not normal is that he went to high school when he was eight years old and to college when he was just 11. He argues with his teachers pointing out their mistakes, he wants to learn more, but high school and college could not teach him anything he did not already know, so he studies on his own too. He does experiments at home which are dangerous. He is very competitive and cannot accept defeat. Sheldon has germaphobia, so he does not shake hands, and detests hugs. His interests are nowhere similar to any other kid, all he likes is science, physics specifically. His sister and his brother do not like him as he is irritating to them. His dad is irritated by him too, the only person in his family who tolerates him patiently is mother. His mee-maw is a fun person who lives her life to the fullest, going to bars, meeting people. The Cooper family goes through a lot of ups and downs and it's mostly because of Sheldon.
The Review
‘Young Sheldon’ is a family show which is fun to watch. The plot of the story is very creative and humorous. All characters have played their roles very well and it is a good light comedy. It shows us the everyday life of a genius boy who looks at the world differently than everyone else. The plot might get a little talkative here and there but it is still interesting. There is no strong language or offensive jokes used. Where can you watch it? It is available on amazon prime video. Is there any action? Not much, the genre is comedy and drama but there are adventurous parts. Any music? Just like big bang theory, there is only the intro which has music. Young Sheldon does have a soft background score. Does it get boring? It might seem a little slow for some but I have seen it a gazillion times and I think it is interesting.
The Comparison
The character Sheldon Cooper is portrayed as a much more likable character in ‘Young Sheldon’ than in ‘Big Bang Theory’. Young Sheldon being a spinoff of the big bang theory, focuses more on the protagonist whereas in the big bang theory, the other characters are given just as much importance. Unlike the big bang theory, young Sheldon does not have any strong language or offensive jokes but the big bang theory is much more humorous and interesting. The background score in young Sheldon gives a better feel than big bang theory but the intro is better in the big bang theory. Young Sheldon is more of a light comedy than the big bang theory. Looks like it is a tie between the both. Both have something the other does not, but I would prefer to watch Young Sheldon for the clean and light comedy. Would I still watch Big bang theory? Sure!
Watch both of them and tell me in the comment section which one you thought was better!
