The Ruler

As the day of judgement came close as doom neared,

one question still stood, is it better to be loved or feared...

Did they march out in battle from the fear of being conquered,

Or was it for the soil they endeared..

The ruler rules with a sword, the blade which is a dread,

Conquered castles built upon millions lying dead,

The pages of history show fear ruling true,

What about the families at home, for whom the soldiers bled.

Playful pretense of love seeping through cold glassy eyes,

The fear which rattles the soul can't be masked by lies,

Fear though stronger, is that what we need...

For it can make heads bow but not form ties..

The plant never watered learnt to grow thorns,

The bull denied acceptance learnt to use its horns,

Those unloved long to be feared,

A suit of thorny armour to protect what it adorns.

The true nature breaks through the luminous layer crafted false,

The ruler feels empty in spite of loot filled halls,

He might conquer the world but he shall come back to himself,

The strongest too slowed by rusty chains of the past he hauls.

To be loved one must learn to love,

To be feared one must rise above,

Fear which is a fire can build or destroy shall be used wisely,

Similar nature of love, it matters which direction you shove..

For some it is easier to be feared and leave all slaughtered,

The fool rises up who just wanted to be left unbothered,

He who fears longs to defend, the ruler puts on the armour,

Dig deeper and you shall find the cries for love painfully smothered...

The longing for love is the root of it all.

The blade pierces the skin no matter how small,

Is it better to love than to fear,

The side where you cut, there the tree shall fall...
